Who's great idea was this to begin with?

How did John McCain become the nominee over all the more qualified candidates - Mitt Romney could have crushed Obama regarding making money, Giuliani would have made an example out of everyone involved in this current crises; Ron Paul would have brought back commons sense.. the list goes on and on. Who is the brain child that thought McCain ws the savior over everyone else?
