Does anyone know any good brand of moose, gel, hairspray, or oil for styling hair with heat tools?

I used to apply Fantasia Oil (from Target) before straightening my hair and CHI straightening gel when curling my hair but whenever I leave and get in a room or car with a bunch of people the first thing they smell is my burn-smelling hair.. And I don't even use the highest heat setting on my straightener or curling iron!! I'm thinking it's the stuff I'm using but, don't know which correct hair gel, mousse, or other product to use on my hair that won't give me that post-heat styled hair smell. I hate that! Any suggestions?
